From Jon our 2024 Facility President facility.president@steeplechase.org
Hello, Steeplechase Residents.
With Memorial Day just a week away, we have a small(ish) list of projects we’d like to tackle to get our facility into prime shape for one of our favorite weekends of the year.
This won’t mean a ‘work day’, but rather a ‘work week’…where neighbors can come down whenever you have some spare time and can chip in on any of the projects you choose. Minimal tools and/or equipment would be required. Come down by yourself, come down as a family, or come down with a crew of folks…many hands will make light work!
Here is what we have:
1) Rake out the sand in the volleyball court / leisure sport area. Basically, leaf blow light debris out and rake the sand around to look fresh and ready for fun.
2) Stain the wood pavilion / viewing area. This is the covered structure on the elevated gray deck between the pool and tennis courts. This will require step ladders (and people comfortable being on them). We have brushes and stain at the facility. They will be available (without need for a key). The posts have already received a new coat. The roof system is what needs to be finished.
3) Pine Straw. We will have 80 bales of pine straw on site by lunchtime on Friday. 20 bales at each neighborhood entrance and 20 bales for the facility. The facility has had some pine straw already so just freshen up the areas of highest visibility.
4) Mulch at tennis viewing area. We have two huge piles of mulch at the rear of the parking lot. We’d like to take some of that mulch and spread it out on the far side of the tennis courts in the viewing area. Spread liberally. Cover the entire area and make it look nice.
5) Mulch where tree fell. Shorter walk with wheelbarrows… the area that became exposed (hard to miss) where the large white oak fell needs to be spruced up and needs erosion control. Spreading mulch here should make the area look nicer until it grows back in naturally and will protect our stream and pond when it rains.
6) Picnic tables. Need a few people to carry two picnic tables from the pool area to the bonfire area. Two go, two remain by the BBQ grill. The two to go will be marked.
7) Mulch on Sever Road. With all our new mulch from the white oak that fell, we have a great big pile on Sever Road. Come spend a few hours or come spend 30 minutes…in time we’ll get it all freshly spread. Bill and Pat Wagner have already begun to spread a good portion. Follow their lead in terms of how much and where.
8) Viewing area deck repair. Please contact Jon Lovejoy directly if you would like to help with this minor construction project.
9) Volleyball net and posts. Please contact Jon Lovejoy directly if you would like to help with this minor construction project.
